At the centre of Hexocene is the chameleon

Colourful and intriguing, the chameleon has fascinated scientists and storytellers for centuries. It has always gone its own way — and thrived.

Let’s explore what makes it so remarkable, and why it became our emblem.

What is it?

Chameleons (family Chamaeleonidae) are reptiles found across Africa, Madagascar, Asia, and parts of Europe. With over 200 recognised species and a fossil record stretching back 60 million years, they are one of evolution’s enduring success stories

Qualities, and their symbolism

  • Colour change

Specialised skin cells with pigments and nanocrystals that shift colour — a living innovation that enables communication and transformation.

  • Vision

Eyes that move independently give a near-360° view — clarity and foresight from every angle.

  • Tongue speed

A tongue that shoots twice its body length in a split second — precision and decisive execution.

  • Balance & grip

Zygodactyl feet (two toes forward, two back) and a prehensile tail anchor every move — resilience and stability while adapting.
